NoD Magazine #15 featuring R. S. Todd is Now Available!

Hey all!

Just wanted to let you know that Issue #15 of NoD Magazine, featuring my short story “Clive”, is now available!

Nod Magazine is the University of Calgary’s sole publication of undergraduate poetry, prose and artwork. I’m proud to have my story alongside all the great work within its pages.

“Clive” is about a man suffering from severe depression, who is abandoned by a medical system which insists on treating him solely with pharmaceuticals against his wishes. In desperation he turns to his neighbour for help – but in a way that neither man would have ever expected.

Your Novel: The Timeline that Wasn’t

One of the most frequently-asked questions at one of my reading events or book signings is how long it took to write one of my books. My answer for Raincloud was 18 months of writing plus another 10 for editing, design, and production.

Usually their eyes grew at my reply, leading me to sense that they were really asking, “How long will it take for me to write my book?”

Without even factoring in the varying length any book could be, the timeline to complete a novel can’t be measured. It all depends on your tangible commitment and the intangible aspects of your characters and story.

Book sales?

The quality of your writing?

The fact that you finished your book at all?

My column in the October edition of the Writers and Editors Network newsletter is called “Measuring Success”, which discusses how you should measure yourself by your accomplishments, not your royalty cheques.
